Communicating science is hard. Communicating controversial science is even harder. Join the Seattle pod of 500 Women Scientists to learn how to be more effective when discussing charged scientific topics. Joy DeLyria, the Interpretative Programs Supervisor at the Pacific Science Center, will present on how to have constructive conversations about controversial science. Topics that will be covered include:
- Knowing your audience
- Biases that lead to dismissing science
- Research on effective vs. ineffective communication methods
- Best practices for positive conversations
- Shared values to focus on
- Goals for these types of conversation
